first week of rec league games

We had our first games of rec league basketball this past Saturday for Cale and Marcus.  Ewan is in skills practice and his games will start after the first of the year.  Both Cale and Marcus's teams came away with wins.  This summery of Cale's game is from his coach.  Cale had a good game for coming off of a two day fever illness.  He had a pretty rough cough that got him some extra rest time on the bench.  Cale had some rebounds and handled the ball well.  I'm excited to see him improve as he feels better.  I can't remember if he scored any points.

"What a great game for our boys this morning!  The final score was a 15-12 VICTORY and we are really proud of how everyone played today.

Owen and Will were running around like the tasmanian devil out there and were super effective in playing great defense today.

Jackson and Zach hustled all game long.  Both of them had some great looks at the hoop and Jackson nailed the first shot of the day and got us off to a great start.

Finally, we had two amazing performances by Cale and Patrick.  Cale fought all day with a cough and cold and never let it affect his play.  Patrick faced two injuries during the game and was still our leading scorer.  One was a hurt hand during a fall to the floor that knocked the wind out of him, and the other at the end of the game was a flying elbow to the bridge of his nose.  Both of these guys fought hard through some tough stuff and really showed the gutsy grittiness that our team will be known for throughout the season.

As we head into week two, we have PRACTICE at 6pm on TUESDAY at HHES, then our next game is a week from today, December 14th at 9am.  Please have the boys there about ten minutes early so we can run some layups to warm up before the game starts.

Thanks to everyone and CONGRATS to your boys."

Marcus played that afternoon.  His rec league coach is also his travel coach.  So, with all his games and practices, Marcus sees his coach 5 days a week.  Anyway, Marcus played pretty well.  He had a couple rebounds toward the end of the game that kept ball possession with his team and he swatted the ball away as an opposing player was trying to shoot.  Twice.  Marcus was pretty stoked about that.  He is getting more comfortable with more aggressive play.  He's also thinking about the game more.  He explained a foul he committed by saying that it stopped this kid from making a layup and stopped the time clock. He was right on both counts.  That's my boy! Here is a summary of Marcus's game via text messages that I was sending Andy.
