a sweet spirit

Cale can tie his shoes! He has been working hard at this task. The motivation behind succeeding was completion of a turkey picture for kindergarten class with skills listed for each of the feathers. The other feathers, Cale got, no problem-his address, phone number, lunch pin. The shoelaces gave him problems. But, completetion of the turkey earned you a jingle bell for you shoe and you were then in the "jingle bell club". Cale worked with dilegence on this task. And, with practice, mastered the skill within a few hours. The next day he got his jingle bell.

When he came home that afternoon, he said, "Oh yeah, Mom, I thought maybe you could use this." And, he pulled out some blue thread from his pocket. "Cale, where did this come from ?" "Oh, from my jingle bell. I didn't want it on my shoe." "Cale, where is your jingle bell?" "Oh, I gave it to Alex. His fell off at recess and disappeared." Cale worked so hard for that reward and just gave it away to his friend without a second thought. He didn't even seem sad about giving away the bell. He was matter-of-fact about it, because it was the right thing for him to do.
