growing mold on the counter

This is the year for Cale's science fair.  Time kind of got away from us.  I remember signing the form saying we were aware of the dates things were due.  The next thing I know, it's, oh, 4 days before the written report is due and Cale has not started his experiment.  Because, you know, he couldn't have pick an experiment to be done in a day (like how long salted and unsalted water takes to boil).  He picked one investigating whether mold would grow faster on dry or moist bread.
Here's the set-up:  wet and dry bread on plates and in baggies. He used some bread from Panera for this experiment (quite the sacrifice).

And, now we wait.

How gross is this?  The moist bread was becoming liquid-y.  Yuck.

It took about a week for mold to appear on the moist bread, and then a couple days later, on the dry.  In the meantime, before the mold had come, Cale had to turn in his report.  He was honest with his lack of results at the time of the report.  And, was excited that there was mold to show everyone when they brought their projects in the next week.

Here's my guy with his poster presentation.  He got a blue ribbon for his work!
